Wherever you go on Kangaroo Island, there’s a common theme; breathtaking scenery, friendly locals and sumptuous food and wine.
Each of our seven regions also has a unique history. Kangaroo Island has seven regions and they’re all expecting a visit from you: Dudley Peninsula, American River, Kingscote and districts, Heartland, North Coast, West End and the South Coast.
Dudley Peninsula
Penneshaw, is where the SeaLink ferry docks on Kangaroo Island’s eastern side and is the major town on the Dudley Peninsula.
Many Dudley Peninsula beaches, including Island Beach and Antechamber Bay, are sheltered from the winter winds which makes them perfect for families. Climb the Cape Willoughby lighthouse. After dark meet the local penguins.
American River
There’s wild nightlife here, grab a torch and wait for the tammar wallabies and brushtail possums to come right to your doorstep.
The big birds love American River. Black swans, geese and pelicans nest here. You’ll find the oyster industry at American River. Pelican Lagoon is a natural fish nursery and aquatic reserve. Surfers can’t enough of spectacular Pennington Bay.
Kingscote
Set on Nepean Bay, Kingscote is Kangaroo Island's “capital”. There are loads of shops, restaurants and an increasing number of quality art galleries. The nature walks are special too.
Heartland
Heartland is appropriately named because it’s right in the middle of Kangaroo Island. Here you’ll find Parndana, a typical Aussie country town. From Parndana it’s easy to see the rest of Kangaroo Island. If you’re here in spring, look out for beautiful wild flowers.
South Coast
It’s wild and wonderful and where you’ll find most of Kangaroo Island’s major attractions including Seal Bay, Vivonne Bay and the spectacular 500,000-year-old Kelly Hill limestone caves.
North Coast
Swap the wilds of the south coast for the serenity of the north. Sheltered swimming spots, the seemingly endless Emu Bay, imposing cliffs; there’s lots to explore. The eco lodges takes you one step closer to nature
West End
Flinders Chase National Park covers most of western Kangaroo Island and includes the statuesque Remarkable Rocks, the breathtaking Admirals Arch rock formation and some awesome walks.
Kangaroo Island, blessed by nature, yours to treasure.
