Deep Creek National Park, Fleurieu Peninsula

Explore the vibrant bushland and beautiful coastal vistas of the Fleurieu Peninsula at Deep Creek National Park, just a 90-minute drive from Adelaide. Discover secret waterfalls as you explore the park's numerous walking trails and diverse flora – on a clear day you can even spot the silhouette of Kangaroo Island in the distance. Teeming with wildlife, you’ll likely encounter kangaroos, bandicoots, cockatoos and bearded dragons as you stroll along one of the 15 walking trails, or set up at a picnic table overlooking the Southern Ocean. Writer’s tip: Blowhole Beach is a must-visit while in South Australia. Access this mesmerising beach by navigating the 4WD track or walking the two kilometres from Cobbler’s Hill campground. You might be lucky enough to spot dolphins in the surf! 

Onkaparinga River National Park, Fleurieu Peninsula 

Bordered by the coast, hills and vineyards, Onkaparinga River National Park is one of the best spots to bushwalk on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Dust off your hiking boots and navigate across rugged ridgetops and down to the lush river valley of Onkaparinga Gorge. Pack a picnic and kick back at Punchbowl; a spectacular rockpool surrounded by cliffs and impressive rock formations. Some of the trails are suitable for mountain bike riding and horse riding and your pooch can explore the neighbouring recreation park on lead. Cellar Door Hopping, McLaren Vale 

McLaren Vale is known the place where lush green vines give way to a blanket of blue ocean. While wine regions the world over are often found inland, or in cooler climates, McLaren Vale stands out thanks to its coastal location and Mediterranean-like climate, which actively influences the wine style produced here. Amidst this dynamic environment, red wine varieties like shiraz and premium grenache take centre stage, accompanied by a rich assortment of Spanish and Italian varietals such as fiano, vermentino, tempranillo and sangiovese. With over 80 cellar doors to visit in McLaren Vale, spend a day or two indulging in wine tastings. Coast to Vines Rail Trail, Fleurieu Peninsula
